Grades of waterproofing

British Standard BS8102 sets out the different grades of waterproofing:

Grade 1

Car parking, plant rooms (excluding electrical equipment) and workshops where some seepage of water and damp patches are tolerable

Grade 2

Workshops and plant rooms requiring a drier environment and retail storage areas where no water penetration should occur but moisture vapour is tolerable

Grade 3

Ventilated residential and working areas including offices, restaurants, etc where no water or vapour penetration is tolerable

Grade 4

Archive and stores requiring a controlled, totally dry environment

Types of construction

The  Standard also sets out three types of protection that may be used. Our trained surveyors can advise on which is the most appropriate method for your project.

Type A - Tanked protection

An application of cement render to the surfaces

Type B - Structurally Integral Protection

A membrane is built into the concrete - only applicable to new build work

Type C - Drained protection

A drained floor and wall cavity membrane. This is the type of protection which is appropriate for the majority of our clients.
